Fund Manager

Collective investment venues known as mutual funds in which investors purchase shares so that their pooled resources may in turn be invested in various asset classes are typically controlled on a day-to-day basis by a fund manager. This financial professional has both market education and experience and will typically have a proven record of high performance in the trading of stocks and securities. Over and above experience and education, however, fund managers are normally individuals who are regarded to have an intuitive sense that allows them to predict what securities will do in response to social and economic factors that influence market trends and performance.

As a matter of daily business, a fund manager, working in concert with a research staff, will implement an investment strategy for the mutual fund and maintain that strategy by purchasing and selling stock and other assets accordingly. Typically fund managers will communicate with shareholders via monthly newsletters / reports or increasingly via websites.
